Bachelor's Degree 5-7 years of experience required GENERAL SUMMARY The role of the Clinical Informaticist II is to provide administrative, clinical practice and consultative services to individuals, physicians, departments and agencies that are a part of SJMHS. Participates in the assessment of needs pertaining to clinical information systems, including hardware, software, staff development and management support. Supports care area teams through the development and refinement of clinical designs including process flows, order sets, decision support, analytic reporting, documentation templates and online forms. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Maintains ongoing dialogue with the Director of Clinical Informatics regarding ongoing projects and patient critical issues. Takes a leadership role in the analysis of systems and processes. Analysis may include: data collection, statistical analysis, flow-charting, cause and effect determination, documentation of system/process gaps, recommendations for contingency plans and planning and execution of key project phases, such as user validation testing, process simulation, and end-user support. Facilitates effective integration of clinical information systems with other improvement initiatives that will enhance patient care. Participates in improving patient safety and reducing risk to patients including the active support of organization quality improvement initiatives. Functions as project manager through leadership facilitation skills and collaboration in analyzing, planning, directing, implementing and evaluating projects related to clinical informatics systems. Mentor and supervise project members and influence them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work. Represents and advocates on behalf of SJMHS clinicians on UEM teams. Relates decisions and/or relevant information to SJMHS service line leads. Serve on leadership teams. Acts as a change agent for nursing, physicians and all ancillary departments and promotes a positive acceptance of the clinical information system. Assist clinical end users to effectively manage the system as a tool and to understand the benefits of the system. Assumes a leadership role to ensure the integration of clinical and revenue management processes during issue identification and resolution. Works in collaboration with the training team to create successful training and implementation plans for various clinical applications, including, but not limited to, the electronic medical record, point of care technology, and other clinical specific applications. Coordinates response to emergent situations during clinical application downtimes and acts as a resource for clinical, medical and interdisciplinary staff. Maintains professional knowledge and skills in clinical informatics by review of literature and professional journals, participation in professional groups, and daily contact with peers. Learns and applies new technologies. Demonstrate the ability to manage multiple and ever-changing priorities. Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships. Approaches conflict in a constructive manner. Helps to identify problems, offer solutions, and participate in their resolution. Maintains the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patient, physicians, employees, and visitors to St. Joseph Mercy Health System. Discusses patient and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in private places. Follows all HIPAA policies and procedures. Behaves in accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values of St. Joseph Mercy Health System, and Trinity Health. Adheres to SJMHS Performance Standards-Focus on Others. Assumes responsibility for performance of job duties in the safest possible manner, to assure personal safety and that of coworkers. Reports all preventable hazards and unsafe practices including near misses and actual errors either to management or using the SJMHS event reporting system (VOICE). Performs other duties consistent with purpose of job as directed. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND LICENSURE Education: Bachelors Degree in Nursing or equivalent experience, ie minimum of five years of experience within clinical applications. Licensed Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan Experience: Demonstrated leadership experience. A minimum five years of clinical work experience with previous clinical informatics experience preferred. Minimum of 5 years of broad organizational knowledge typically obtained from experience in a leadership role. Strong project management skills with proven success at managing large-scale projects and/or complex department operations.
