Requisition Number 16-xxxx Post Date 5/4/xxxx Title Commercial Accounting Operations Manager (NWP) Location MI-Ann Arbor Description SUMMARY: Under the general direction of the Carrie Hamilton, Director of Property Accounting, the Commercial Accounting Operations Manager will manage all aspects of the SmartSource Commercial Accounting Operations. The Commercial Accounting Operations Manager will be responsible for providing technical guidance and team leadership to the SmartSource Accounting Team. He or she will produce accurate and timely financial information for clients and is further responsible for maintaining comprehensive records and documentation for client audit purposes. The Commercial Accounting Operations Manager is accountable for delivering client financial reporting through internal operational effectiveness of the accounting and internal controls functions, that will support and produce positive customer experiences for our external client base. He/she is also accountable for producing creative ideas about how to improve financial performance through innovation and effective measurements. His/her major goal is to increase value creation for the company from the financial areas by increasing talent and insight in the financial area. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to the following: * Provide timely and accurate financial information and a basic analysis of that information to clients. * Provide leadership for all client accounting functions including cash management, general ledger, financial reporting, and accounting systems. This includes providing daily operational/technical guidance to the accounting team and responsibility in recruiting and developing technically competent, professionally ethical, performance focused individuals. * Provide leadership for the development and implementation of policies and procedures that ensure adequacy of internal controls, safekeeping of assets, efficient operations and compliance with GAAP accounting rules, as appropriate. * Continually assess and manage the capabilities and performance of the Accounting staff under his or her management, and recommend organizational improvements to enhance their capabilities. * Build a strong team of associates consistent with NWP's commitment to provide an effective working environment where customer service is a priority. * Guide, support and mentor staff, developing continuous growth opportunities and succession plans. * Recommend employment related decisions that affect personnel such as hiring, compensation, disciplinary action, and terminations. * Assists in development of long-term strategies for growth and maintenance of department resources. * Drive and initiate technology focused solutions to enable people and system scalability. * Develop & maintain supportive working relationships with other management and support team leaders. * Provide technical expertise and training to other departments in support of product development. * Align all work and resource management with NWP's mission, values, goals and strategic objectives. * Exemplify, foster and lead the organization through NWP's policies and Corporate Values - Execute As Champions, Accountability, Delighted Customers, Commitment to Our Associates, Teamwork, Passion for Innovation REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES * A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from an accredited College or University is required; a Master's degree/CPA Certification is a preferred. * A minimum of 5 years of Accounting/Finance management experience is required. Property management experience a plus * Strong computer skills - MS Office Excel, Word, Outlook * Strong verbal and written communication skills * Detail-oriented * Ability to manage multiple projects/assignments at one time * Dependable * Team Player * Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment * Must be a strong leader and professional manager with a proven track record of creating and managing the accounting and financial reporting functions of a large staff. * Ability to maintain appropriate compliance and controls. * Strong problem solving skills, utilizing technical expertise and good business judgment in support of operational and strategic objectives. * A mature sense of self and the ability to manage in a high-growth, rapidly changing corporate environment. * Ability to recruit, assess and develop personnel.
