The Tax&Accounting Professional Global Development team consists of architects, software engineers, and analysts in seven countries. They work on applications for professional tax and accounting firms and for small- and medium-sized businesses. These applications enable tax and accounting professionals and business owners to complete accounting, payroll, and tax compliance tasks; manage staff and firm workflows; manage documents; and manage portals for staff and clients. As a Technical Writer on the Technical Communication team, you will work closely with colleagues from Development, Support, and Training&Consulting to design, develop, and maintain user assistance and training documentation for our applications. You will foster collaboration across multiple teams as you gather technical and product-specific information and translate that information into concise, clear text for our users. You must display a strong commitment to delivering quality documentation in HTML, PDF, and video and to serving the needs of both internal and external customers. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES Under the direction of a Technical Communications (TC) supervisor, you will: * Collaborate with colleagues to design, develop, test, and troubleshoot user assistance for our software applications and training materials for internal staff to train end users. * Explore internal software builds and collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) including senior technical writers, development analysts, lead support reps, software engineers, and technical trainers to learn about our applications and our users content needs and to prioritize tasks to best address those needs. * Demonstrate and work to expand core skills in writing / editing, gathering and synthesizing technical information, and using and troubleshooting content-development and related business tools. * Manage all project tasks, including setting interim deadlines, juggling multiple projects simultaneously, confirming and adjusting priorities as needed, proactively communicating status and roadblocks throughout, and assisting other writers when needed to meet department deadlines. * Help maintain department standards and implement process improvements by proactively asking questions / offering suggestions; keeping abreast of current trends, tools, and processes in the field; and enthusiastically seeking and providing feedback on content. Content-development skills: * Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in writing and in person. * Willingness and ability to proactively collect information (on our applications and our users) from multiple sources. * Ability to synthesize technical information and to identify missing content. * Strong commitment to developing high-quality content, to assessing and accommodating user needs, and to writing for the appropriate audience. Technical skills: * Proficiency in using Microsoft Windows. * Proficiency in using word processing, desktop publishing, HTML-editing, and content-management applications. * Comfortable working in a development environment in which the applications you are documenting are in flux and thus unstable. * Ideal candidates also have experience developing web-based user assistance and knowledge of and interest in pursuing the latest technical advancements in content delivery. Additional skills: * Demonstrated attention to detail. * Ability to meet tight and shifting deadlines on multiple projects simultaneously. * Reliably proactive in identifying and reporting roadblocks before they become problematic. * Excellent interpersonal skills and a willingness to assist colleagues (within TC and beyond) as needed. * Ability to speak conversational Spanish or Portuguese is a plus. * A background in user experience is a plus. Education: * Bachelor s degree in technical communications or related field (or a minimum of two years experience developing web-based user assistance for software applications).
